On Friday 22, Ricardo and Laura will be at a special milonga organised by Mauricio Hernández at the Senior Citizens Centre, 153A Brunker Rd Adamstown, from 9pm.

A spectacular tango night with Belen Tango.  Tango in all its beauty and complexity in two enchanting show-dinner nights at Lizottes Sydney (14 February 2013) and Newcastle (23 February 2013), and as part of the Made in Argentina Festival.

Performances by Belen Tango Dance Company, featuring Laura Melo and Ricardo Barrios from Argentina, with live music by Australia’s sassiest tango orchestra Tángalo. The show will be accompanied by a traditional Argentinian dinner.  Not to be missed!

Newcastle has the great opportunity to receive this dance couple from Argentina, who were winners of the world tango competition held in Buenos Aires in 2008 (http://danielnacucchio.blogspot.com.au/).

They will be giving 3 Workshops and Performance on the Friday Milonga.

Workshops: one on Friday and two on Saturday.

Friday Workshop 1: 7:30 pm to 9 pm.
TURN AND THE ART OF PAUSING -GIROS Y PAUSAS.

Turns are essential for navigation on the dance floor. This workshop will explore the musicality and technique of turns, in particular with respect to the uses of pauses, thus expanding the possibilities for interpreting the music.

Saturday Workshop 2: 11AM – 12:30 pm
VILLA URQUIZA STYLE TANGO (turns, walk and embellishment) – ESTILO
VILLA URQUIZA (giros, caminatas y adornos).

Daniel and Cristina belong to the very few teachers of the Villa Urquiza style, which is characterized by an elegant walk, musical adornments and spry movements with abundance of giros, enrosques, lapices and agujas. Learn from them the very elegant steps of this style of refinement and subtlety made famous in the milongas Club Sin Rumbo and Sunderland in Buenos Aires and adopted by the best dancers of Salon Tango. Nowadays, Villa Urquiza Tango-style is also adopted by most of the dancers competing at the World Tango Championship.

the Line of Dance

Milonga: will be having performance by Daniel and Cristina.

Anibal and Hosanna in Sydney, 18-19, 21-22 August 2012

Anibal Montenegro and Hosanna Heinrich arrive in Sydney this week. Starting in Wellington for the New Tango Festival Anibal and Hosanna have been on a whirlwind tour of Australia visiting cities from Melbourne to Darwin and everywhere in between. This week they deliver their final program of workshops in Hosanna’s home town: Sydney.  As experienced, charismatic and approachable teachers they have developed a strong following in Australia over the last 4 years. The workshops in Sydney will have a strong focus on technique, musicality and creating dynamic movement in a close embrace.

Tango workshops with Belen Silva, Sunday 22 July 2012

Belen Silva will be back in Newcastle this weekend and will conduct two workshops on Sunday 22 July 2012.

Details are as follows:

  • Workshop 1:  2:30 pm to 3:30 pm  –  The lead to the cross and possibilities from the cross (approached from the follower’s perspective).
  • Workshop 2:  4:00 pm to 5:00 pm  –  Introduction to symmetric and asymmetric lead (approached from the leader’s perspective). Use with musicality.

Venue: Cardiff Senior Citizens Hall, cnr Myall Rd. and Harrison St., Cardiff.
